Introducing...
AWN KITCHEN'S NEW BLOG!!!
Hello everyone - welcome to our new blog!
As I'm sure you're aware, running a small business in Alberta is exciting, rewarding and, at the same time, challenging and often chaotic. To say it is not easy is a bit of an understatement. So many things around us are in a constant state of flux - our world and economy, our climate, the seasons and the ingredients we have access to - and that means that here at Awn we also need to change and adapt so we can serve you better.
We are extremely passionate about what we do, and our goal is to offer you simple and honest food that is also decidedly delicious. The quality of the ingredients we put into our offerings is also immensely important to us, and for that reason we source our ingredients from local and sustainable producers whenever possible.
So, back to this blog. This blog is going to be a space for us to connect with you on an on-going and consistent basis. Every Monday check-in here for our tip of week, something short and quick and hopefully very helpful. Something that will make your cooking journey simpler, more approachable and ultimately more fun. Then every Thursday come back for a new recipe linked to the tip. Breads, muffins, soups, cookies - whatever our inspiration of the moment happens to be. Again, the focus will be on simple but delicious.
But that's not all. Once a month we're also going to post an in-depth conversation/interview with someone who's important to Kaelin and to Awn. Someone who's both inspired Kaelin and also helped shaped her vision. Check back in January to see who's up first.
Kaelin (KW) and Jan (JH) will be the voices behind our new blog. Jan will be sharing the tip of the week and a new recipe from Awn's kitchen weekly, and she'll be putting together our interview blogs. Kaelin will be writing more about the business side of things, big updates and she'll pop on with random ramblings too! We are so excited to add a section for kids to the blog, too. If you've been following Kaelin on social media, you might know Olivia and Bryce. If you're new here, they are Kaelin's niece and nephew, Olivia (10), and Bryce (9) have been in the kitchen with her since they were quite small. They have all kinds of tips, tricks and recipes to share about being a kid in the kitchen! We get asked regularly about classes for kids and at this time, they're something we just can't add to our schedule or current space. Which is why Kaelin thought it would be fun to have Olivia and Bryce join in on our blog with ideas for you to try with your kids at home.
Jan will be introducing herself properly next week. For those of you who are new here - I (Kaelin) am the owner of Awn Kitchen. A few fun and random facts about me - I never thought I'd be an entrepreneur, I love wool and linen, and own far too many aprons (most of which are linen!). If I could go back in time and cook with one person, it would be my grandmother, Molly, who is said to have thrown the best dinner parties. I believe food and eating are so much more than something we have to do - it brings people together, offers opportunity to learn, nourishes our bodies, and builds connection and community. It starts long before it ends up on our plates and although that is a slogan that gets thrown around frequently, I think about it daily as I eat, cook, teach, tell the stories of farmers, and advocate for clean, fair food that builds a resilient local food system. It's at the core of everything we do at Awn. Although I could support the big guys and have a more profitable business, the relationships we have with farmers are far too important to me. I can't wait to share snippets of life as an entrepreneur, bring new recipes and ideas to the blog and give everyone an opportunity to see what Awn is all about through this blog.
We mentioned social media - the blog is a great space to see what we're up to, grab recipes and tips, but Kaelin also shares regularly on social media, so do head over and give us a follow on Facebook and Instagram.
We're so happy to have you join us on this adventure! Thanks for joining us!
